Fluid Decent

I wanted this image to look almost like a painting. I print this on Hahnemühle Torchon Paper which is a very textured paper. This make this look more 3-d as the texture on Torchon is so prominent. I got this shot in Michigans Upper Peninsula, on a camping trip. This is part of the Black River, but I colorized the water to make it look less dark. The Iron deposits in this river make it look black as coal and my son nicknamed it “the Coca Cola river”.

Propylaea and Niki

Shot at the Acropolis in Greece it’s entrance way into the Acropolis (Propylaea ) and the Temple to Niki in the background. I shot this as I was leaving the Acropolis, but saw how the light was creating shadows and the textures in the columns made such amazing contrasts, that I stopped to shoot this in the middle of lines of people trying to get out.

I made this black and white to highlight the contrasts of all the stone in the building and the light hitting areas and creating all the shadows.

Gothic Morning

Shot Early in the morning in Barcelona Spain, I loved how the light was starting to come around the buildings in the area. The archway is a very famous landmark and even at 6am I had to wait a bit to get a shot without anyone in it. The Yellow tone and details in this piece really stand out on the prints, and make you really stop to look hard at the image.

Rocks and Reflections

I love the color in this. The different shades of orange throughout this image are so gorgeous. This was shot in Costa Rica and the 2 lonely rocks in the middle of the image just feel so isolated with everything else in going on. They immediately draw your attention then the lights lead you right into the cliffs of in the background, and transport you back to that lonely beach.

Minaret through the Arch

I shot this in Morocco in September of 2019 in Fez at the Bou Inania Madrassa. The arch shadows and highlights make a very interesting play off the bright green minaret. The eye is drawn to several spots of green through out the image draw after the initial view of the image’s subject, which add interest to the image.

Lanterns in the Alley

I shot this in Fes Morocco in September of 2019. I had to shoot this HDR since the dark parts of the images were so dark and the lights would blow out the image. I played quite a bit with dogging and burning this to make all the little subtle images pop on this. This is a great little piece to set up in a hallway and feel a little more spacious than it is.

Leading to Green

Shot at Starved Rock National Park in Illinois, this canyon’s fallen tree made a great leading line up into the deep green forest. The heavy moss and leaves just give this a color bomb of green and the little trickle of water falling behind the tree is a nice contrast to everything else going on in this image.

Ruined Archangel

Finished this new print in time for the Halloween art show at the Flat Iron Arts Building. This one is called “Ruined Archangel”. This old church is an ruined village in the mountains on a island called Kefalonia in Greece. The earthquake in 1953 destroyed the old village and most of the houses and this church were abandoned and the village moved about a half kilometer down the mountain.  This church was the named after the Archangel Michael and some of the elderly villages will still put lit candles in the little alcove outside the church.

I left the image is intentionally left dark to give the print the abandoned and a sad feeling that nothing is their now that the church is near completely overgrown. The gorgeous sunset is a stark juxtaposition to the old church and feel the contrast. The leading lines of the retaining wall at the bottom and the mountains in the background are all supposed to draw your eye back to the old decaying church and leave you emotionally attached to the church. The image is also scaled to 16×9 to give it a wide screen feel.

Myrtos Calm

Though this beach is usually wavy from this high up you can’t really see all the waves. This is a combination of 6 images that have been stitched together so this print could be made in a very large size. I also picked a 2.35 x 1 size for this print, which is a theatrical film aspect ratio as I felt looking at this you get a sense of calm and blue that almost will make you feel as if you are looking at a movie.

Blue Convictions

Shot in a small village in Kefalonia Greece, this is where my family and I are from. The small bell tower against the empty mountain ranges behind it give this piece a feeling of loneliness and isolation. The Greek flag pops out and I wanted this to show the pride people have no matter how far they are away from the Capital.

Leading Lines

Doing a river walk I just happened to look up and saw the converging lines of this building near one of Chicago’s draw bridges. I liked the symmetry of the corner of this building but wanted just a hint of the location of this photo. I like pairing this photo with “Silicon Reflections” another building photo of Chicago.

Silicon Reflections

Shot in Chicago near Daley Plaza, I saw the building reflected on the glass and it made me think about all the great buildings in Chicago and how they all create this amazing skyline. I like pairing this photo with “Leading Lines” another building photo of Chicago.

Chicago through Gehry

Walking through Millennium Park, I wound up in the theater, and the soft round lines, contrasted with some of Chicago’s most iconic buildings in the background. I wanted the Gehry theater to just peak through in this image, while still focusing on the amazing Chicago Sky line.

Bridges and Reflections

Shot HDR in October 2018, this was a little bit of a lucky shot as I was walking around Chicago, photographing random people and scenes. As I was walking across the bridge I saw this and quickly set up the tripod and there it was.

Reflections of Sevilla

Taken in the summer I shot this at sunset after seeing the beautiful reflection in the water. This scene struck me as just very tranquil and and the lines leading everything back to the tower in the Palaza de Espana.

Costa Sunset

This was a great sunset, with the jagged rocks, and beautiful orange and purples. I had hiked down to the edge of the city past everyone else and managed to get just this amazing spot for this series. I cropped this out as a 16×9 to give it a slight widescreen feel making it feel like a wide landscape.

The Parthenon

This image was take in 1998 and had just this great late afternoon light. It was a little cloudy but I was able to get a shot that had no clouds in the background and the blue very much looked like the blue of the Greek flag.

Now this part of the Parthenon is under construction and has cranes and scaffolding all around it.
